Dreams

Dreams - Dreaming for God

None of us should be afraid to dream; to dream even big dreams. Every great endeavour begins in a mind's eye that looks beyond the ordinary and in a heart rich with yearning. Consider the following wise words;

'Nothing happens unless first a dream.' Carl Sandburg

'To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.' Anatole France

'In your heart, keep one still, secret spot where dreams may go and sheltered so may thrive and grow.' Louise Driscoll

'A man's dreams are an index to his greatness.' Rabbi Zadok Rabinowitz

So dream… please dream. Nurture and pursue noble thoughts of the future, but as you do be careful. It's not that dreams are bad - no they're good - but some dreams, when pursued to their logical end, turn into nightmares.

Before letting a dream settle deep in your heart, consider first those things that inspire and motivate your dream. Is it inspired by a big vision of God and a corresponding passion to glorify and enjoy him forever? If so, pursue it with all the vigour you can muster. And if it's anything less, if you come to the conclusion that your dream is principally motivated by a desire for power, prominence, wealth, or any other worldly longing, drop it like a hotcake.

Jesus words stand true. They are for our good. 'Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things (all the best that you could hope and dream of) will be given to you as well' (Matt 6:33).
