Jesus Christ : Holy Spirit

Title            What is the Bible?
Theme        Jesus Christ : Holy Spirit

(This is part 5 in the Bible Study series.  Part 1 is found in edition 4, Part 2 in edition 5, Part 3 in edition 6, and Part 4 in edition 7 of the online magazine.)

At the start of this series we talked about God. Yet, through the Series, we refer to Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, as God.  But the Bible clearly says-- God is the ONLY TRUE God. Let us  clarify this.

This bothered me for some time, too. However, God tells us in the Bible about this. Just follow through in your mind as you read.  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, AND THE WORD WAS GOD. The same was in the beginning WITH GOD." John 1:1,2. Maybe this only makes you more confused. Who was the Word? Why was He with God? God is the ONLY God!  All right, let's go further. "And the Word WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us." Verse 14. There's the first answer for you -- the Word was undoubtedly Jesus Christ. He came to this planet about 2000 years ago as a human -- that's history. Look "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child OF THE HOLY GHOST . . . And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus ; for He shall save His people from their sins." Matthew 1:18, 19, 21.

Now you say: 'So Jesus Christ was with God, and is God.  Well, that means there are two Gods.'  We'll read further:"I and my Father are one." John 10: 30.  Not two Gods--one God; it's emphasised here again: "That they all may be one; as Thou Father, art in me, and I in Thee, that they may be one in us..." John 17: 21. Here we realise that this ONE-ness is not being in one person, nor being as two Gods; but rather being ONE in their CHARACTER, MIND, and PURPOSE. This was illustrated in that verse above..."that they also may be one with us. Obviously meaning their ONE-ness was only in their character, mind, purpose -- ONE in relationship.

Do you now say: 'Yes, there is really only one actual God, even though in two persons.' You have got it right. That's not all. There is still the Holy Spirit who is equated with God, in the references before. Well exactly the same facts apply to the Holy Spirit as to Jesus Christ. The ONE-ness of the Holy Spirit is also the same. Still only ONE ACTUAL GOD. This validates the whole matter "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father (God), and  of the Son (Jesus), and of the Holy Ghost." Matthew 28: 19.  Notice only one name for the Godhead of three persons- not separate names. Therefore ONE GOD.

That really convinced me.  It's wonderful how God's Bible is so informative  and logical.

In the next article you will find that most interesting. It will impress your mind with greater certainty.
