God’s Double Agent by Bob Fu
The early Christian church suffered persecution - in the dark age's persecution was rife - but are we aware that persecution is still very much alive.
Persecution of Christians in China involves torture through beatings, sleep deprivation, the use of electrical batons which are used on all parts of both male and female bodies. People are taken and at times they are never seen again. When people can escape, the government then makes their family and friends bear the punishment. There is no protection if the government decides you are guilty. There are no human rights in China.
Bob Fu was a peasant boy in China, he dreamed big, exhibited strong leadership qualities at a very young age, and eventually ended up living in America and working with American Presidents in rescuing Christians from China
God's double agent highlights what life is like for Christians in China now.
Bob Fu was born to a mother who had been a beggar, and a disabled father. Life was a struggle, his parents, whilst having very little, were very generous to those who they considered in greater need than themselves. School was a time of being bullied because of his poor background. Bob decided at a very early age that he wanted to facilitate equality for all people. Initially he decided that he would do this by studying hard - getting a good job and becoming wealthy, he would no longer be poor. By the time Bob was in high school he started to realise that the problems with society were not being poor, but corruption within the government. Bob now set his sites on being the first democratically elected Prime Minister for China. Bob from an early age showed strong leadership qualities, and this was recognised by both teachers, and the government - though very early in his life the governments recognition of his qualities was not looked upon with pleasure.
Bob reached university at the same time as students in Beijing were rebelling against the government's hard hand. Bob encouraged students from his university to travel to Beijing and join the students at Tiananmen Square. The army could be seen monitoring the students' actions - but no one believed that the army would take any decisive action. Bob's girlfriend was with the group, she became sick while they were camping at Tiananmen Square, and Bob decided he needed to take her to hospital. That decision may have saved both their lives, as shortly after they left the army did act and the death count was between several hundred to several thousand. Whilst Bob was not at the site when action was taken the government was given his name, and from that point in time Bob became a person of interest, his education was impeded, and he spent the rest of his life having to look over his shoulder.
Due to his involvement with the Tiananmen Square revolt, the government now was not allowing him to study as freely as before - this caused him much distress. A fellow student passed him a booklet - the booklet introduced him to Jesus. Bob now became a Christian. If Bob had been in strife before with the government, this was nothing compared to what he was now to endure.
At university Bob met Heidi who was to become his wife. Heidi also became a Christian during their university time. They both completed their education, became employed, and married. During this time, they were both working with the underground church in China. Bob was eventually gaoled because of his involvement in Christianity.
China from 1979-2016 had a one child policy. A couple had to get permission to even have their first child - if they did not get permission the government would abort the child and may even sterilize the mother. Heidi became pregnant after Bob was allowed out of goal. They now knew they were in serious trouble. Bob and Heidi were able to escape and get refugee status in America in 1997. Gods hand can be seen over how they managed this.
Bob once he was established in America set up China Aid - he works with many organizations including the Voice of the Martyrs, and Open Doors and worked closely with governments from America and other countries as he tirelessly advocates for the Christians in China, and he has been instrumental in getting many of these children of God to safety in America.
This book is very easy to read, though it can also be distressing to see how the Chinese government treats their own people who want to follow Jesus.
May God bless these people who exhibit such braveness as they worship Him.
