Daron has a Soapbox moment!

I Say No to Last Generation Theology Heresy, by Pr Daron Pratt

Some have asked why am I so vocal about standing up and saying no to "Last Generation Theology" in all its forms? Why are so many leaders too scared to make a stand and call this out and yet you Daron are vocal about this heresy?

The reason goes back to my childhood.

I grew up in the 70's  LGT had a profound negative affect on my life.  The guilt, formulas and false theology loaded on me as a child by rookie theologians was tantamount to spiritual abuse.... Judgement scales where Jesus was on one side and my sins on the other... if my sins outweighed Jesus then I was lost.  I was told repeatedly that my name might come up in the judgement today and I would be eternally lost if I was sinful.  I was told that one sin would keep me out of heaven.... I needed to be perfect... only those with a pure character would make it to heaven... was I an overcomer?  What if I sinned just before Jesus returned?  I hated this Jesus....  As for me I was scared witless.  I was scared of burning.  I had the form of outwardly overcoming but inside in my deepest being I knew I could never be good enough!

I saw whole generations leave the church because of this! I will not stand by and witness it again!  My fear is that it is making a comeback to the church I love, the church I am passionate about....

"Last Generation Theology has its roots among such early Adventist leaders as A.R. Jones, E. J. Waggoner and W.W. Prescott, but found its clearest expression in the last chapter of the book Sanctuary Service by Milian Lauritz Andreasen (1876-1962). His ideas are forcefully promoted today by several prominent Adventist speakers and a range of independent ministries." (Bruinsma)

These independent ministries in more recent times have begun to boldly prey upon the vulnerable and the naive with their regressive theology… especially our kids resulting in great heartache, tragedy and mental anguish for these kids and their families.

It was in the late 70's that a gospel based Avondale theologian came to Mildura and did a regional day.  It was there that I saw a clear picture of Jesus and His Grace for the first time.  A Jesus who did it all for me.  A Jesus who Justified and Sanctified and set me apart.  My eyes were opened, my chains fell off and I was free.  I fell in love with a Jesus who sees my best attempts at righteousness as filthy rags and clothes me with His righteousness.  I fell in love with a Jesus I could run boldly to, rather than away from, cowering in fear and trembling.

This is why I fiercely protect our children from the wolves of false doctrine.  This is why I will stand up for them and show them a clear picture of Jesus. A Jesus who loves all!

It's time for us to stand up together and collectively shout against LGT in all its forms for our children's sake... children should never be kept awake at night wondering if they are good enough for Jesus.....

We need to preach Jesus, we need to preach grace, we need to preach hope, we need to preach unconditional love. We need to show children the clear picture of salvation and the unadulterated gospel! That is the be all and end all when it comes to our kids and goes a long way to keeping them as they grow up.

This is the Jesus at the centre of scripture.  This is the Jesus at the centre of Adventism, and is the Jesus I will stand on my soapbox and preach: not because of what I have done but all because of Him!

Jesus All!

Daron gets off his soapbox and protects the children.
